Philippine Web Award wannabe

Filipinos love celebrating fiestas as a result of the four-centuries rule of Spaniards of the country. The pomp and the colorful way of celebrating this annual event served as the inspiration for this year's theme of the 8th Philippine Web Awards. Media G8way Corporation has come up with a lively theme billed as "Festivals & Fiestas." Say hola! and join us as we celebrate the Philippines' biggest Internet industry fiesta!   

I entered Gimikera Is In to the 8th Philippine Web Awards this year and we are still awaiting the results of the semifinals. July 2005 Check Up

Gimikera Is In has received 61 unique inbound links and has climbed up one notch in the Truth Laid Bear ecosystem. I am now one of the Marauding Marsupials as of July 5. However, my figures dropped somewhat and I'm back to being a Flippery Fish.

I've added some other elements in my sidebar, which includes a new typelist called Shout it out! This contains my shoutbox powered by Saybox. I've also added a NeoCounter so I can see how many people are viewing my blog online and from which country they come from. This NeoCounter is powered by Neoworx.

The number of posts have increased from 90 to only 130 in a span of one month.

Yet another change to my sidebar is my choice of search engine. I previously used Google but it turns out that Google couldn't spider my blog since I couldn't add META tags (Technically, I could but I'd have to shell out around $100...yikes!). I then decided to change my search engine and I opted for the Technorati Searchlet.

Gimikera Is In had 20,000 unique visitors during the first week of July 2005, and the number of unique hits now (23,622 as of July 28, 10:30 AM)  is more than 5 times the number of unique visitors recorded a month ago by StatCounter. Of all of these unique visitors, 2,940 of them are returning visitors.

As for pageloads, this blog has hit the 30,000 mark, which is triple that of what StatCounter reported just a month ago. On the average, I get 381 visitors daily.

According to my Friendster/Typepad account, Gimikera Is In has used up only 33.3% (16.6  Mb of 50Mb) of its alloted diskspace and this is probably because I've been using Flickr to show my pictures instead of uploading in my account.

Stacking against Stacked

The most popular keyword used that usually leads people to this blog is friendster.com. On the same page of the Yahoo! search results, I noticed a blog named http://pamelaanderson.blogs.friendster.com and I was thrilled to see that Gimikera Is In was in close proximity to the blog of this popular actress.

When I saw an ad for her blog and when I clicked on it, they had backstage photos of Pamela Anderson shooting on the set of her new sitcom Stacked. View the advertisement of Stacked here.

This ex-Baywatch babe plays Skyler Dayton, an employee of "The Stacks," a small family-run bookstore owned by Gavin DeWitt (Elon Gold, In-Laws) and his brother, Stuart (Brian Scolaro, Three Sisters).

June 2005 Check-up

I consider this blog to be my primary pet project in the blogosphere so I'm taking time now to give it a check-up to assess whether or not my marketing and promotion strategies are successful or not.

I started Gimikera Is In last April 19, 2005 and since then, I have posted one or two entries daily, which brings my total number of posts to around 90. I first discovered the use of Typelists when I browsed through the Help section of Friendster blogs and since then, I've been using them to utilize HTML and even Javascript in my sidebar.

Speaking of sidebar, my sidebar is gettting pretty crowded because of all the stuff I want to place there. To date, I am using 13 Typelists, some of them containing more than one entry each. These Typelists include my dynamic Flickr badge, my unique hit counter (powered by Statcounter.com), my Headline Animator (from Feedburner.com), my bookmark section (includes Welcome message and Blogarithm notification system), my Current Mood (powered by Unkymoods.com), my Guestmap (powered by Bravenet), ads from Google AdSense, Search box also from Google, Translate my blog section (powered by AltaVista's Babel Fish), my banner in the Link Me Up section, buttons of partner sites, and finally, my Advocacies section.

Update: I regularly keep track of my ranking in the Truth Laid Bear ecosystem and I became a Lowly Insect in a few days and then went down to being one of the Crunchy Crustaceans. As of latest check (June 26), Gimikera Is In jumped to being one of the Flappy Birds. Now with 41 unique inbound links to Gimikera Is In, according to The Truth Laid Bear, this blog is now an Adorable Little Rodent (June 27).

I installed my counter only last May 30 and since then, I've had 4,344 unique visitors to my site, with 308 of them being returning visitors. I used to average around 100+ visitors daily but I have seen my stats jump to as high as 600 unique hits in a day to as low as 250 per day.

The bulk of my visitors come from the United States, most of them being referred by Blog Explosion and Blog Clicker. I've also noticed that my ranking in Yahoo! jumped from the 50th spot to no. 39 and as of the latest count, this blog was in 36th place using the keyword Friendster.com.

Update: I reached the 8th spot in Yahoo! using the keyword Friendster.com and I even took a screenshot of it.

Gimikera Is In has hit the 10,000 mark in terms of page loads last June 29. I've had 8,125  unique hits, with 743 of them being returning visitors. These figures are double (!) that of my stats last week.

According to my Friendster/Typepad account, my actual bandwidth usage this month exceeded my bandwidth allotment of  0.25 Gigs per month. Gimikera Is In is using 0.314189 Gigs in a month (125.68%). I guess this is the reason why some of the pictures won't show up.

I'd also like to announce that I will be removing my Blogarithm notification system and will be replacing it with the service of Bloglet. If you've signed up for blog updates using Blogarithm, please take the time to subscribe using Bloglet instead.

Yet another change to this blog would be the inclusion of a shoutbox / tagboard so that even those without Friendster accounts can leave a message or comment. When I do add this feature, I will be moving the advocacies to a separate category so that they are no longer in the sidebar but will be linked in the main text area. I hope you continue supporting these sites as well as Gimikera Is In.
